Zambia Introduces Cutting-Edge Digital System for Gemstone Oversight

Zambia takes a significant leap forward in gemstone management as the Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), introduces a cutting-edge online system for gemstone production reporting and export permits.

This groundbreaking platform is set to revolutionize how the country oversees gemstone production reports and compliance processes.

Hapenga Kabeta, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, heralds the digital platform as a game-changer, poised to streamline gemstone production return filings and simplify permit applications within the sector.

Dr. Kabeta envisions the system as a catalyst for promoting accurate reporting by businesses engaged in the gemstone trade, ultimately contributing to the robust growth of Zambia’s economy.

During the launch of the Mineral Output and Statistical Evolution system in Kitwe, Dr. Kabeta’s speech, delivered by Director of Mines Billy Chewe, highlighted the platform’s transformative potential in enhancing transparency and efficiency.

Moffat Mukwala, representing the Emerald and Semi-Precious Minerals Association of Zambia, warmly welcomed this initiative, emphasizing its role in fostering accurate reporting and transparency.

Mukwala foresees substantial mutual benefits for both the nation and gemstone-focused businesses through this innovative system.

In further support, Irvin Mwita, the representative from the Zambia Chamber of Mines, commended the Zambia Revenue Authority for its visionary step.

Mwita highlighted the system’s potential to optimize taxation processes and bolster revenue collection within the mining sector.

This progressive initiative marks a pivotal moment in Zambia’s gemstone industry, poised to elevate transparency, accuracy, and economic contributions, setting a new standard for gemstone management and regulation.
